Performance is indeed (mostly) solved. It's WAY faster than before. Especially with really large albums and batches of files. There's still room for improvement, but it's a order of magnitude more usable than before.
See, I have to admit that I've been cheating a bit. I've been running iPhoto 2 for about two weeks, and I've been really thrilled about during all that time.
The library manager shouldn't be necessary anymore. It was mostly a tool to help coup with the scaling issues, but with those resolved...
