Bubble Bobble is one of those golden classics that age gracefully and remains fun more than a decade since it was concieved. I've spend uncountable hours in the company of that green dragon and his bubbles.
So the joy would take no end when the combination of Frodo the C64 emulator and C64.com made it a mobile enjoyment. Or so I thought. The joy took a very disappointing end right as I discovered that the Nokia 3650 doesn't do diagonals.
Diagonal movement is as essential in Bubble Bobble as in any other action game. Without diagonal jumps, you can just as well forget about blowing your bubbles through the 100 levels. It can't be done. You can jump up or move left or right. But no jumping right. Very much a "bah" moment.
It's the question that drives me, then. Is this a hardware limitation or something that could be fixed in a firmware upgrade? Someone in #mobitopia noted that the PocketPCs had the same problem in the beginning, but that it was fixed. So let's hope for the firmware possibility.
Without the diagonals only puzzle and RPG games like Tetris, Pacman, and Zelda makes sense. Not that those are bad games, but it would be much preferable to indulge in the entire library of C64 and Gameboy games.
(Nokia, are you listening? At the very least, make sure the 6600 does diagonals. It would make it an instant must-have for any serious mobile gamers!)

I think that Nokia would want serious mobile gamers to go for the NGage and not emulator based gaming that doesn't provide any income from licensing and whatnot.
