Jogin tells the story on how he decided it was time to part ways with Windows and upgrade to a Mac. What should be most disturbing for Scoble and his companions, however, is that Jogin is not switching for what is, but what's to come:
However, it seems like, — it feels like — Windows is heading back down into the dark abyss of sucking, deeper than they've ventured before. It seems like every week I read or otherwise learn something about the future of Windows, often DMCA related I suppose, and I sigh in relief that by the time it becomes a reality I won't be using a Windows PC anymore.
I'd find that a pretty scary thought if I were running Microsoft. Here's a guy that's able to cope with the virus/worm plagues and all the hurt with the current Windows, but he's going away because he doesn't like the future of Microsoft offerings dawning on the horizon. Yikes.
I guess that's the trouble of being a company that few to none feels passionate about. Now that a viable alternative is available, people are able to act as the political consumer and vote with their valet.
Like LISP, Smalltalk, Python, and Ruby are languages of love for many, OS X and Linux/FreeBSD are the platforms of love. And finally, now that the iron grip is going rubber, people are able to switch to peace, love, and harmony.
I hear people talk all the time about how much they love their Mac. For the past two years, I've not meet a single person in real life that has had even remotely similar affections for their Windows box.

I myself use Mac, Python and VIM. Here is a little comment on why I love them ;-)
One may ask: Where does the love come from? Why do Mac users become religious fanatics? Or why do Ruby coders become fanatics? Why do Emacs users become obsessed with this editor?
The answer is simply that those choices make them feel better, than choosing some other things. I don't think you have choose Ruby because you want to make your day harder - you have choose it because it's better than most other programming languages. Anyway. what do I mean with feel better? Here are my own examples:
I never shut down my Apple laptop - It has had 2 months uptimes! Does this make me feel good? Hell jeah ;-)! Does it make me feel good that all my files in my home dir are 128 bit encrypted!? Hell yes. Does it feel good that I am not afraid of getting viruses? JEAH! I could go on and on.
On to Python. Why do I love it? I came from PHP - I thought PHP was fine, but I didn't have love for it. Well, one day I got a job where I had to do something with Universal Feed Parser (written in Python). I imported the module and bang - love on first sight ;-) It was so SIMPLE to parse !any! damn feed... After that I learned more about Python and I really got hooked. Why do I love it? Because: Python can run anywhere and you can code anything in it. An example: I code my VIM scripts in Python! I can get access to Mac OS X's Cocoa framework and make some kickass GUI apps. I can create my own webserver. With the help of mod_python I can easily control the apache server - I could actually also make Python On Rails ;-). Anyway, I can use Python to build up some pretty "nasty" web applications. The language is so damn sleek and simple - - yet so powerful. Etc. etc. Because of such things, I am in love!
There are also text editors of love - David: You forgot to mention them ;-)! Anyway, I really love VIM. I have used shit loads of editors - - but none can come close to VIM. I really don't care if I stand out - - it's really indifferent. I simply love VIM because it's so damn powerful and because it makes me happy ;-) What makes me happy? An example: I really have a problem remembering all the damn web-passwords and logins... Using VIM and Python I coded a script for vim that stored all my passwords. Ok, was smart about that? The smart thing is that those files are nasty encrypted: The actual password for the file is SHA-1 160 bit (sha is something like md5). The actual file is encrypted using RSA encryption. Coding this in like 2 hours - Jeah, those kind of things make me happy..
I have used Windows for a decade - and I never felt passionate about it. I have used Linux for some months - I never felt passionate about it. I switched to Mac OS X - - BANG - love on first sight! Anyway, I am starting at computer science where we the first year are going to learn Java. I have dropped a peek on Java - - and boy this language makes me depressed. Coding lines in Java is coding lines in Python * 10. Frankly, because of such things I really understand that no one loves Java :-D

Having been both a Mac user and a (current) Windows user I like both systems - each has it's own perks and drawbacks, and in the end I don't have a big preference except for the neccisity of using a Windows machine because of my work.
I think the biggest thing that gets overlooked though is the vast difference in market share that makes Windows the bigger target. Lack of viruses or security vulnerabilities appearing does not directly equate to vulnerabilities or viruses not being possible. Your house is an awfully safe place until the first time someone breaks in - just because no one has broken in yet doesn't mean they can't break in.
Right now Macs have a very limited Market Share when it comes to PCs in the world. Hackers just can't be bothered. I have a feeling the situation would be very different should Macs and PCs one day have equal market share.

The overhyped idea of market share is not really valid when it comes to windows vs linux vs macs. If it were valid, then how come Apache, the dominant web server software, is attacked far less than Microsoft's IIS? Most of Apache's attacks are probes - probing if the server is running IIS so that a vulnerability can be exploited.
Why less market share for Apple? Because [1]there are no clones (heard there was one, though) to speak of, [2]did not twist the arm of hardware manufacturers to bundle their OS and [3] Apple is not a criminal company that has been found to violate antitrust laws by the US Courts. :D
Anyway, I am just flamebaiting so ignore my posts above. :)
Why people love their Macs? Because it simply works! How many times have you failed to meet deadlines because of Murphy's Laws applied to the BSOD? How many times have you rebooted because your computer locked up? Gets infected by a worm, trojan or virus? Macs are simply reliable! Always there when you need it. These are why people love it.
