eXtreme Planning on Rails with Story Cards

Jim Weirich, of Rake and RubyGems fame, has started on a wonderful application for planning eXtreme Programming projects called Story Cards. He's been doing it all with Ruby on Rails and has in just over 1KLOC developed a very functional creation that's already used to plan Rake 0.4.8, Story Cards itself (0.0.2), and Ecal (calendar system for tracking meeting room usage for Children’s Hospital).

Jim has also created a RubyForge project for Story Cards that allows you to check-out the source and have a look. Since this is categorized by Jim himself as pre-alpha software, you shouldn't expect a one-click install, but it's very cool to have a look over the shoulder this early in the game.

Massive kudos to Jim for embarking on this cool application and sharing it with the world this early. Thanks!

What a wonderful feeling to read through someone's code and feel like you pretty much understand how the application works after just skimming it over one time.

It's great to start seeing some of the code that people are writing with rails.

Perhaps it would be easier to install cygwin. I never managed to get Iconv to work as a standard library under Windows, but it worked like a charm under cygwin, and I've not had problems on OS X or Linux either.

But I agree - stuff like this needs to be adressed in order to appear professional and be approachable for lots of users. There's no reason for it not to work - but lack of volunteers.

force binding writers to use Ruby/DL and you'll avoid the need for platform dependent binding binaries *at all*.
Parrot is going this way since the beginning, the ruby c0mmunity needs to change an attitude at 'runtime'.
