The Amazonians in Seattle are in for a special treat this Friday. Dave Thomas will be presenting a two-hour show covering Ruby with examples of how the Amazon domain could be modeled herein. Dave Thomas needs no introduction, but just for good manners, he's the one of the Pragmatic Programmers and author of the just-released Programming in Ruby, 2nd edition.
What particularly excites me about this talk is that Dave will be including a tutorial on Active Record and a full-blown example of a small web-application developed in Rails.
I just had a look at the slides and I must say I'm really impressed how quickly Dave has internalized the Rails approach. The Amazonians are surely in the hands of a master.
And as if that wasn't enough, Dave is most likely going to be presenting using TextMate as his editor. I can't begin to tell you how cool it feels to have one of your all-time technical role models present using not one but two projects I've had a hand in.

Ok, first question: any mention of Dave making those slides publicly available?
Second question: does this imply that Amazon is considering moving over to Rails? Or is this just a way to present Rails for other, related work?

Not sure about that. Dave is probably going to take this show on the road for a while, like we do with Building of Basecamp. Giving the story away in advance kinda spoils the fun for future runs.
2nd: Ha. Nah, I won't like the odds on that happening. But it'll be interesting to hear their reaction, though. Being that they're actually the shop everyone keeps referring to as in "well, you're not going to build an amazon, are you?" as an argument for simplicity.

Unfaithful? I'm not sure if you are talking about me (likely) or Dion. Regardless, I'm skeptical of all things Ruby...I'd much rather have a solution in Python. Add to that the huge plethora of existing web frameworks in a variety of languages, and it is rather easy to not go gaga over rails.

There is a hugh amount of code(frameworks) written in Java. So what? Only 1% of this hugh pile is really worth to use(look at) at all. Rails is a unique framework and it deserves a more thoughtful investigation.

I meant you, and I'm not criticizing, sorry if it seemed like that.
Bad feedback is good fedback , indeed, it allows people to correct their problem.
I'd rather write perl cgis than work again with tomcat, ejbs and freaky deploytools, but, hey, that's just me.
(BTW I see a lot of $i18n.stuff thins on your blog. I guess you have some problem with the jsp scripting. )

The $i18n.stuff is because the localization of the site isn't complete...there is no JSP scripting in allthings.mp, but thanks for playing.
I can understand your frustration with Tomcat, EJBs and freaky deploy tools...I have similar frustrations with Apache and freaky mods.
