Rails in German Linux-Magazin for December

The December issue of Linux-Magazin features an article called "Programmieren: Webanwendungen mit Ruby und Rails". I was interviewed for the magazine by the writer a while back, so perhaps that article also includes that?

If any of the German Railers have access to buy the magazine, I'd love to see the article scanned from it. I believe this is the first print mentioning of Ruby on Rails. A few more are in the pipeline.

I bought the magazine yeserday and the interview is included (translated to german). I have no access to a scanner right now, but maybe your interviewer from Linux-Magazin can send you a copy of the article.

I think I can do that, I happen to have my scanner connected right now ....

One thing I will add about "hiring tools and not talent", I think the Java (and especially the J2EE) development world has really got people thinking that way again. Between the 20-30+ frameworks you have to know (Servlets, JSP, EJB, JDBC, JNDI, blah, blah, blah) J2EE seems to have become the favorite of shops that go for that "big upfront design". Even a really great programmer can take several weeks to a month to get up to speed on even the basics of the "lightweight" WebWork/Spring/Hibernate stack and all the accompanying tech. Even now that I know it all pretty well, it can take me a good week of work to get a simple decent application together.

I discovered Rails just three weeks ago as a pointer from Dave Thomas the pragmatic programmer, and it is by far and away the most productive and intuitive web development environment I've ever used. Just just 3 weeks of "playing" with it I have put together 3 applications that are now being used heavily on a company intranet (60+ users), and everyone is pleased with both the performance and the ease with which they are maintained. I'm pushing Ruby and Rails big time in my organization and to my customers. I can't wait till the majority of my contracts are writing Ruby apps.
