Rails made the cover of Slashdot today with a story on RAD with Ruby. Primarily a story on how KDevelop now has integrated support for Ruby, but Amit managed to sneak in mentions of both Rails, the API for it, and my weblog. Thanks, Amit!
I'd recommend having a look at the 10-minute video, then reading Vincent's excellent tutorial, and then getting jiggy with it using Gem Rails. Enjoy!
And do bring your questions to the FreeNode channel at #rubyonrails. We're a happy bunch of almost a hundred willing to answer loads of questions with almost endless patience.

By the way David, when you release 0.9.0 which will (hopefully) have IOC, could you post the new code for the weblog application you made in the video (or even a new video)?

Ahhhhh... another web development framework. I am having trouble deciding which framework to use for an upcoming side project. I have been doing alot of development in .NET because, well, that is what people seem to be paying for. But when it comes to building something of my own I have trouble deciding what lang. to do it in...I mean, there is classic ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, Zope, on and on and on....I want one development framework that is easy to develop with, quick to develop with, easy to maintain, and easy to learn. ASP.NET with C# can produce really nice code (esp. with CodeBehind) but it can take forever to code an application that actually looks good. I ran across BaseCamp awhile back and was extremely impressed...I had no idea it was done with Ruby on Rails. Part of me wants to delve into Ruby, but I am on a windows box and I have a sinking feeling that I will just be disappointed when nothing seems to install or work correctly. But, I have been looking for a clean solution for web apps that does not require an OS license, and I have this strange feeling that Ruby might be the way to go. Why should I choose Ruby over any other lang. David? Can you help me decide???

I really don't have a programming background, but this weekend I dove into rails and had no problems getting started on windows. Have a look at the flash tutorials here:

Just by following the examples, I got everything running fairly quickly.

He did one at Roskilde University though, and the words "what the fuck" did cross his lips once or twice. Being a bunch of liberal Danes, however, noone in the crowd took much notice of it (I was there)
